Churchman's Theory of Design Integrity

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.24.4.54

I revisit West Churchman's masterwork The Design of Inquiring Systems and interpret it as presenting a theory of a system's design integrity, which is in essence a theory of a design's wholeness, soundness, and virtue. This theory is especially powerful in its professional application, where the role of critical observer—or responsible social witness—also deserves special attention.
