Management Science 65th Anniversary Conference

Journal editorial board organizing a conference May 20-21 at Questrom School of Business, Boston University.

This year marks the publication of the 65th volume of INFORMS flagship journal Management Science. To celebrate this anniversary, the editorial board is organizing a conference May 20-21 at Questrom School of Business, Boston University. The focus of the conference is “Innovations in the Science and Practice of Management,” with an emphasis on integrating theory and practice. 

The conference will feature several plenary and invited speakers across all areas of interest to the journal; the invited talks will be followed by a discussion.

Plenary speakers include: 

  • Patrick T. Harker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and former president of the University of Delaware and Dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former editor-in-chief (EiC) of INFORMS journal Operations Research.
  • Rebecca M. Henderson, professor at Harvard Business School with a joint appointment in the General Management and Strategy units. Henderson is also a research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
  • Wallace J. Hoppassociate dean at Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and a former EiC of Management Science.
  • Thomas L. MagnantiInstitute professor and former Dean of the School of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Magnanti served as president of the Singapore University of Technology and Design. He is a former EiC of Operations Research.
  • Alvin E. Rothprofessor of economics at Stanford University, former president of the American Economics Association, and a Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences.

“For more than six decades, the INFORMS journal Management Science has served as the leading source of groundbreaking research in the fields of management science and operations research,” said Ramayya Krishnan, 2019 INFORMS President. “This conference is a celebration not only of the journal, but of the fields themselves. Operations research, management science and analytics have long helped to save lives, save money and solve problems. We celebrate all those who have played a role in bettering our professional community and society at large, and the role Management Science has played in the dissemination of important knowledge.”
