Magazine Submission Guidelines

OR/MS Today: A Magazine Powered by Members, Driving Smarter Decision-making 

OR/MS Today is dedicated to advancing the field of operations research and analytics by delivering authoritative insights, inspiring stories and innovative perspectives by and for OR/MS professionals and academics. As the flagship membership magazine of INFORMS, we strive to provide readers with a comprehensive view of the industry’s most pressing challenges, emerging trends and impactful solutions. Through in-depth articles, case studies and member thought leadership, we aim to empower the OR/MS community with the knowledge and tools needed to drive informed decision-making and foster meaningful contributions to society.  

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

To submit an article for consideration in OR/MS Today, please follow these guidelines:

• OR/MS Today is a print and online membership magazine that is published quarterly. You must be a current INFORMS member to publish in OR/MS Today. (Analytics publishes articles by both members and non-members. See below.)
• Articles for OR/MS Today are accepted throughout the year and are subject to space constraints.
• The word limit for feature articles is 2,000 and 1,200 for department articles.
• Articles should be vendor-neutral and written as a narrative.
• Avoid technical jargon (or define any necessary terms) and mathematical notations. If math/equations are necessary to support the content, please provide html code for the equations and/or an image.
• Begin with a strong introduction, incorporating language that peaks readers' interest/curiosity and makes them want to learn more. Your conclusion should also be strong, summarizing your arguments/findings and looking ahead.
• Provide 3-5 short bullet points that articulate the main points of your article. Think about them in terms of what you'd like your readers to take away from the article if they don't read through all of it.
• Include a title, subtitle, and subheads.
• Provide any figures or photos as separate files, not embedded in the Word document. If figures are created in Excel, please send the .xlxs file. Photos must be 300 dpi to print correctly. Please limit yourself to three images or graphs.
• Provide a brief bio and headshot.
• Submit the article as a Word document in Times Roman 12pt. font.

• Analytics is an online-only membership magazine. It accepts submissions from both members and non-members.
• Articles for Analytics are accepted on an ongoing basis. New articles appear bimonthly.
• The word limit for articles is 1,500.
• All other guidelines are the same as for OR/MS Today.
