The INFORMS Board of Directors has voted unanimously to appoint Galit Shmueli as the inaugural editor of INFORMS’ newest journal, INFORMS Journal on Data Science (IJDS).
Galit Shmueli is the Tsing Hua Distinguished Professor at the Institute of Service Science, and director of the Center for Service Innovation & Analytics at the College of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Prof. Shmueli holds a Ph.D. from the Technion’s Faculty of Industrial Engineering & Management, and held tenured positions at University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business and the Indian School of Business. Prior to her selection as editor, Prof. Shmueli was department editor since the start of Decision Sciences Journal (Business Analytics department) for over five years, and has served as associate/guest editor for top journals in statistics and information systems (e.g., Annals of Applied Statistics, Statistical Science, MIS Quarterly, JASA Reviews, and The American Statistician). She is well-known for her work, which currently has more than 7,800 citations.
“I am delighted to spearhead this important effort toward creating a top, high-impact journal publishing state-of-the-art data science methodology that addresses contemporary decision-making challenges,” notes Prof. Shmueli. “The editorial board will work tirelessly toward this goal, building on our experience and multidisciplinary backgrounds. However, the success of IJDS will critically depend on excellent submissions and support from our INFORMS and non-INFORMS data science community. I look forward to your support and high-impact submissions!”
Over the next several months, Prof. Shmueli and INFORMS will be working to establish the editorial and operational infrastructure for launching IJDS. It is anticipated that IJDS will open for submissions in late 2020, with the first accepted papers published in early 2021.
