International Conference aims to make a ‘better world’ with O.R, analytics and artificial intelligence

The 2018 INFORMS International Conference will be held in the world-class International Conference Center (TICC) and the Grand Hyatt Taipei in beautiful Taipei City, Taiwan, on June 17-20. The conference theme is “A Better World Through Operations Research, Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.”
The conference offers excellent opportunities to learn about the emerging O.R. and A.I. technologies and applications from more than 40 invited, sponsored and contributed clusters featuring more than 600 talks. Along with plenary and keynote speeches, attendees will hear presentations in the areas of service science, supply chain, energy, sustainability, autonomous vehicles, smart healthcare, financial technology and digital economy transformation delivered by top researchers and industry leaders from around the world, including eight INFORMS Fellows and six National Academy of Engineering members.
The conference also features 12 tutorials in key areas of data science, deep learning, data integrated stochastics, model-based optimization, smart healthcare, smart manufacturing, logistics, the sharing economy and FinTech, along with insightful case studies. Special panels on “Industry 4.0,” “Education Transformation through Analytics,” “Science and Engineering,” “Meet the Editors” and “Women in Technology” will also be offered.
In addition, the conference will hold the first INFORMS’ “Hackathon in Healthcare and FinTech,” with a top prize of $10,000 to encourage rising talents’ contributions to O.R., analytics and AI. Other special events include a poster session and proceedings with awards sponsored by IBM and others. Networking opportunities at the welcome reception, a women’s reception sponsored by BNYM and a Chinese banquet dinner will round out the program.

Grace Lin is the founder of UFI.ai. She has served as chair professor at Tzu Chi University, Asia University, China Medical University and Soochow University, Taiwan, and as a vice president at the Asia University, Taiwan. She was VP and general director for the Advanced Research Institute and Data Analytics Technology and Applications Institute at the Institute for Information Industry (III), Taiwan, from 2011 to 2016. Before that, Dr. Lin worked for IBM US for more than 16 years within IBM Global Business Services and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center as CTO, director for Innovation and Emerging Solutions, senior manager for Supply Chain and eBusiness Optimization and research staff member. She was a member of the IBM Academy of Technology and an IBM Distinguished Engineer. Dr. Lin is an INFORMS Fellow.
