The Lanchester Prize is awarded for the best contribution to operations research and the management sciences published in English in the past five years. Winners of the award not only receive a commemorative medallion but a $5,000 cash award as well. The 2020 award will be presented in conjunction with the INFORMS Annual Meeting, to be held this fall in National Harbor, MD.
The award is named in honor of Frederick Lanchester, an engineer who made important contributions to automotive engineering (including the construction of the first petrol car in England), aerodynamics and co-invented the field of operations research. His studies in predicting the outcome of aerial battles during World War I resulted in the development of Lanchester’s Power Laws, which were originally applied practically in the United States to study logistics, where they developed into operations research.
To be eligible to apply for the Lanchester Prize, you must have published a paper, book, or group of books or papers on a topic pertaining to operations research/management science. The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2020, click here to learn more.
