Abstract
Abernathy's research was focused on productivity. His early work in the late 60s and early 70s concentrated on the productivity of research and development organizations. His later work expanded as he investigated the “productivity dilemma” in American industry, particularly the auto industry, leading him to study the “new industrial competition” in the US.
