Management Information Systems for Management Sciences

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.6.3.52

This paper covers some of the basic concepts applicable to any management information system (MIS); and suggests a framework for fitting these concepts to the management sciences (MS) function.

General MIS concepts are reviewed and adapted to the management sciences function. MS objectives are presented as the basis for measuring MS effectiveness—both in terms of the host organization and the MS unit involved. The basic systems structure of MIS for the management sciences function is also presented.
