Upward Slopes and Inf-Convolutions
Abstract
Nonsmooth analysis and exact penalty methods give much prominence to functions that exit from certain lower-level sets with positive upward slope. A novel, weak version of such slopes is formalized here and studied in terms of differential properties. Applied to inf-convolutions, those properties help to recover and extend recent results on nonconvex separation, cooperative production (or market) games, and welfare economics.
