There have been a number of papers on closed queues in which the solution has been stated in the form of formulas for the probabilities of each state in terms of one particular state probability. However, the measures of effectiveness proposed are usually linear functions of the state probabilities and it is often possible to compute these more efficiently without calculating the individual state probabilities explicitly.
