A Strategy for Distance Control of Motor Vehicles
Abstract
Problems of distance control occur when approaching a slower moving vehicle and when following it; the two procedures differing from one another kinematically. These kinematic differences between the approaching and the following range were compiled and analyzed by measurements of the traffic flow on highways. With the results of these observations and on the basis of the car following theory, the author has developed a strategy for distance warning indicators built into motor vehicles and has calculated the effect on capacity of such a strategy.
