Showing that the Low-Cost Route to More Data Processing Capacity Will Work
Abstract
This paper describes how several key elements of a model-based analysis were handled. These were establishing credibility, gaining acceptance from recognized technical authorities, selecting the appropriate measurement parameters, and determining the most effective modeling technique. Specifically, a simulation model was developed and used to determine that a 23% increase in data processing throughput could be expected if existing tape drives were replaced with drives that were 60% faster.
