A Computerized Vehicle Routing Application

This paper describes a Management Science project at E. I. Du Pont, Inc., which utilized state-of-the-art computerized vehicle routing methods to reduce delivery costs for a major product by over 15%. The problem involved the assignment of over 1,500 customers to about 50 routes. The project illustrates him an Operations Research consulting team, working closely with line management can install a decision support system that provides major benefits.
