The Nuclear Fuel Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation installed office automation (OA) to improve white-collar productivity. The process included a definition of needs, an evaluation of vendors, and a pilot study to identify both quantitative and qualitative savings. Its success depended on the extensive support of an information center. The project produced a number of guidelines useful to organizations considering a similar endeavor. They are assessed in terms of how they extend previous research which provided guidelines for the implementation of conventional information systems.
