Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Uses Modeling in Estimating Costs of Tuition Remission

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.24.3.100

Southern Illinois University at Carbondale relied on a simple population mathematics model and a data model used with an existing data base (both models were of the quick-and-dirty variety) to obtain a credible range in estimating the costs of offering a tuition rebate for faculty children. These models together provided useful estimates at less cost than a survey. Quick, in this case, did not imply dirty.
