The Paradigm of the Science of Management: In Celebration of C. W. Churchman’s 80th Birthday
Abstract
I explore C. W. Churchman’s philosophy of science to show his influence on the present-day paradigm of the science of management. I emphasize his seminal ideas concerning (a) the differentiation between the science of management and management science and (b) the resolution of dilemmas confronting the paradigm and discuss Churchman’s ideas on how the modern inquiring system—a system dedicated to the acquisition and production of knowledge and to the ethical solution of contemporary management problems—should be designed.
