Practice of Management Science—A Simulation Model of the College Admission Process

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.5.3.55

A computer simulation model, capable of operating in a conversational mode, was developed to enable a college admissions director to evaluate the outcome of a given decision policy before its actual implementation. A major advantage of this work is that it recognizes the uncertainty of the parameters in the admissions process, and includes a systematic sampling procedure for developing more accurate estimates of the parameters as new information is received.
