An Algorithm for Computing Interzonal Transfers Using the Gravity Model

The gravity model is applied frequently to the problem of estimating the number of automobile trips between pairs of points (zones) of a highway network given the number of trips that arrive and depart each point. In this paper, the gravity model is formulated, and an algorithm for solving it is described. Problems associated with using the model also are discussed. A simple numerical example is presented.
