Technical Note—A Linear-Programming Approach to Air-Cleaner Design

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/opre.22.2.295

This note deals with the application of linear programming to air-cleaner design, a mechanical engineering problem. It uses the simplex method to find an optimal solution under the restrictions of dust-collection efficiency, pressure loss, material shortage, minimum demand requirements, and scrap economics.
