A Production Scheduling System
Abstract
A knowledge-based scheduling system is described for a real case study. The problem is solved for a plant with multipurpose machines and job-shop batch characteristics. Given the available machines, the list of production orders, the products' due-dates and process description for each product, the system sequences machines for all required products, using an heuristic approach based on the information of the status of the plant and the characteristics of the orders. This work describes in detail several concepts defined in this project. A qualitative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of these ideas is given, and empirical results are exhibited using real data from the plant.
