Marketing Aspects of Global Modeling

Global modeling is not so different from other sorts of OR/SA. Good modeling, global or otherwise, requires design as well as engineering. Modelers, global or otherwise, are generally better engineers than designers—perhaps the nature of their work destroys their design perspective. In any case it is hard to get an interesting, functional product out of a modeler without outside guidance. Given enough rope, global modelers (and modelers in general) will hang themselves in a snarl of detail and technicality. Only with a client who knew what he wanted and who took an active role in project design was this problem avoided.
