A Simulation Model for Analytical Laboratory Planning

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.14.6.80

A digital computer model that simulates laboratory operations and production scheduling at the Center for Drug Analysis was developed. The model is based on established empirical relationships between laboratory personnel, the number of laboratory samples awaiting analysis, and the number of samples that will be completed during ensuing time periods. Scheduling heuristics determine allocation of resources to laboratory activities.
