Practice Summary: GE Optimizes for Aircraft Engine Overhaul Scheduling and Shop Assignment

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/inte.2022.1130

To rapidly iterate planning and adjust jet engine overhaul maintenance network capacity, GE Aviation implemented an optimization-based decision support system to schedule maintenance events, identify capacity misalignment, and identify cost-reduction opportunities. The approach generates optimal maintenance schedules that reflect qualitative and quantitative trade-offs from customer, business, and shop perspectives. The approach has been implemented and is currently in use at GE Aviation Services for global overhaul network induction planning for all commercial product lines monthly.
