Distribution of the Number of Tasks by a Repairable Machine

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1287/opre.20.4.851

This paper is concerned with determining the various probability generating functions and moments associated with the number of tasks performed by a machine subject to breakdown. The running time, waiting time before repair, and the repair time are independent random variables with general probability density functions. The generating function of the number of tasks for a given uninterrupted running time is assumed to be known. Some special cases are considered.
