An Optimizing Nuclear Exchange Model for the Analysis of Nuclear War and Deterrence

A formulation of a two-strike nuclear exchange has enabled its global optimization by nonconvex programming. This formulation, together with a more detailed physical model involving four strategic weapon classes on both sides, is used to explore strategic war outcomes as a function of selected planning parameters.
