Special Issue of INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics—Learning From INFORMS Prize Winners
The INFORMS Prize is awarded for effective integration of advanced analytics and operations research/management sciences (OR/MS) within an organization. The award is given to an organization that has repeatedly applied the principles of advanced analytics and OR/MS in pioneering, varied, novel, and lasting ways. The INFORMS Prize was first awarded in 1991; more details on the award and the application process can be found at: https://www.informs.org/Recognizing-Excellence/INFORMS-Prizes/INFORMS-Prize.
This special issue seeks to document the success of the INFORMS Prize winners. INFORMS Prize winners are a select group of companies, and we believe the INFORMS community would benefit from learning how the winners achieved their past successes and how they continue to thrive.
INFORMS Prize winners must prioritize depth or breadth when documenting their analytics journeys. We believe papers that address some subset of the following topics would be of interest to the INFORMS community:
Describing the suite of projects that lead to or may be subsequent to winning the INFORMS Prize award; please discuss what makes analytics work in your organization and how you make it work;
Discussing organizational structure, policies, and procedures that make analytics central to your organization’s success;
Fostering executive support, funding, and ongoing expansion of analytics;
Working with frontline decision makers and decision support tools;
Modeling across the spectrum: Integrating strategic, tactical, real-time models;
Redefining the organizational objectives and markets based on the integration of analytical tools;
Evolution of the industry competitive model as it relates to analytics; and
Climbing the analytics maturity ladder.
