A Note on “Political Kidnapping: A New Risk in International Business”
Abstract
In a recent article, Richard E. Peterson presents the results of a study on political kidnapping (see Interfaces, Vol. 8, No. 2, February 1978, pp. 46–53).
My concern is twofold; First, I disagree with the quality of modeling and analysis. Secondly, I am beginning to worry about this attempt to capitalize on the image of being “scientific” in front of a qualitatively oriented audience (politicians) who cannot challenge the scientific validity of the analysis.
If one needs an example for an OR/MS course to demonstrate how a problem should not be attacked, he may not be able to find a better one.
