Call for Papers—INFORMS Transactions on Education Special Issue on Generative AI in Teaching Management Science, Operations Research, Operations Management, and Analytics
INFORMS is the prominent organization of analytics professionals and academics and publisher of multiple highly rated journals. INFORMS Transactions on Education is the INFORMS journal focused on advancing and disseminating approaches, cases, and research that lead to instructional success. ITE’s mission is to become the flagship journal of education science related to the core domains of INFORMS: management science (MS), operations research (OR), operations management (OM), and analytics.
The rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence (AI), including tools such as ChatGPT, have opened new frontiers in education. These technologies are transforming the way educators design, deliver, and enhance teaching in management science, operations research, operations management, and analytics. To explore this transformative potential, we invite submissions for a special issue focusing on the innovative use of generative AI in teaching and learning within these disciplines.
We welcome both theoretical and practical contributions, including empirical research, case studies, games, and conceptual frameworks. Example topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Leveraging generative AI tools to create exercises, case studies, and exam questions tailored to student needs.
Using AI to design adaptive learning systems and personalized teaching strategies in operations research and management.
Evaluating the effectiveness of generative AI in enhancing student engagement and understanding of complex analytical concepts.
Ethical considerations, challenges, and opportunities in integrating generative AI into the classroom.
Developing teaching materials with AI for diverse learning environments, including hybrid and online settings.
Manuscripts should provide insights into how generative AI can improve teaching methodologies, address existing challenges, or introduce novel approaches to pedagogy in analytics and operations education. Submissions must align with the journal’s standards for rigor, originality, and impact.
Authors should review the INFORMS Transactions on Education instructions on preparing a paper at https://pubsonline.informs.org/page/ited/submission-guidelines.
Papers must be submitted online at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ite.
The timeline is as follows:
August 31, 2025: Target deadline for first round of submissions.
December 2025: First round of reviews completed with decisions (and requests for revision, if appropriate) delivered to authors.
April 2026: Second round of reviews completed with decisions delivered to authors.
July 2026: Final versions of accepted papers to be submitted.
September 2026: Target ITE publication date.
