The Philosophy of Capacity

There exists an eminently interesting subset of OR practitioners who deserve particular kudos from us mere mortals. These are the gargantuans of our profession who have perfected the art of being praised (and paid) for being almost always wrong. This enigma isn't the result of imperfect analysis or incorrect techniques—the practitioners are not at fault. No, the fault, if it is such, is an inherent attribute of the field in which they have chosen to excel—capacity planning. This is not a new arena of research. The literature abounds with techniques, alternative techniques, extensions to the alternatives and elaborations thereon.
