It has been the custom of the President of The Institute of Management Sciences, at the ending of his term of office, to explore various aspects of the affairs of the Institute and to indicate trends and directions for the future. I shall not directly touch on the varied, vigorous, and extensive activities of TIMS members, chapters, colleges, editors, meeting committees, and officers, but I do wish to express my gratitude and that of the council for all who have participated in carrying out our goals of identification, unification, and extension of scientific knowledge that contributes to the understanding and improvement of management practice.
