Virtual Special Issue:
Online Education

The COVID-19 pandemic forces instructors worldwide to adopt courses for online and/or blended learning. Transforming existing courses that have been given for years in a traditional format through physical lectures is not always easy. The last two decades INFORMS Transactions on Education (ITE) has published several articles describing excellent examples and best practices of online teaching of courses in Operations Research (OR), Management Science (MS), Analytics, and related fields. This virtual special issue contains a selection of twelve articles; eleven articles provide either specific examples of online material (games, simulations, etc.) or research studies of transforming courses into online formats including experiences and valuable insights. One article (Proano, 2016) presents a case that can be used to introduce production control and operations management concepts in the context of a pandemic, for instructors that like to introduce topical content in their course.

We hope that this special issue becomes a valuable source for instructors worldwide and as such helps ITE in fulfilling its mission to advance OR/MS/Analytics education worldwide.
