Articles in Advance

In an effort to accelerate the dissemination of new research to the operations research and management science (OR/MS) community, INFORMS publishes Articles in Advance, fully produced articles made available online in advance of their appearance in a journal issue.

Articles in Advance are peer-reviewed, revised, copyedited, typeset, and author-approved articles that represent the final version of record prior to assignment to a specific journal issue. The content of the Article in Advance version is the same that will ultimately appear in the print and online issue of the journal, apart from assignment of volume, issue, and page numbers.

Articles remain in the journal’s Articles in Advance section until selected for publication in a journal issue by the journal’s editor-in-chief. Once assigned to an issue, the Article in Advance version is removed and replaced by the final issue publication version of the article. Only the most current publication stage of the article is displayed on the journal website at any given time.

Each Article in Advance is assigned a DOI (digital object identifier) that remains with the article throughout its publication lifecycle, including eventual publication within a journal issue. Articles in Advance are fully citable and discoverable through their DOI immediately upon posting. Because the DOI remains constant across all publication stages, citations to an Article in Advance will continue to resolve to the most current version of the article available online.

How can readers access my article while it is in Articles in Advance?

Articles in Advance are available online through the same access channels used for other journal content. Abstracts are freely available worldwide and discoverable through Internet search engines and indexing services.

Full-text HTML and PDF versions of Articles in Advance are available through member or institutional subscriptions, pay-per-view access, or open access publication where applicable. Readers may access an Article in Advance directly through its DOI.

What is a DOI?

A DOI (digital object identifier) is a permanent and unique identifier assigned to an electronic document. The DOI assigned to an Article in Advance remains the same throughout the article's publication lifecycle, including eventual publication within a journal issue.

Because the DOI never changes, citations and links to the article remain valid regardless of the article’s current publication stage.
