Call for Papers—Service Science Special Issue: Advancing Health Services
Scope
Today’s healthcare delivery systems face a multitude of economic and operational challenges including transitioning to value-based care, transforming data into decisions, managing increasing drug prices, improving shared decision making between providers and patients, responding to industry consolidation, and providing care in resource-limited environments. The focus of this special issue is to highlight state-of-the-art research aimed at overcoming challenges such as these through the design and analysis of existing and emerging healthcare systems.
We seek innovative applications of science, management, and engineering that contribute to the current knowledge base on healthcare services and processes. Preference will be given to rigorous, interdisciplinary, data-driven approaches that demonstrate an improvement in accessibility, delivery, and quality of healthcare services.
In particular, we invite papers from disciplines including operations research, management science, computer science, statistics, economics, and marketing that use analytical modeling or empirical studies to address topics including, but not limited to the following:
Emergency medical services (EMS)
Medical preparedness
Bed management/patient flow
Health facility location
Appointment scheduling and staffing
Personalized medicine
Preventive and predictive medicine
Telemedicine
Health IT
Mental health
Diagnostics
