This special issue of Organization Science invites theoretically ambitious work—conceptual or empirically grounded—on how agency changes when action is increasingly co-produced by people and machines. As analytic, generative, and agentic AI take part in organizational action, intention, execution, and consequence—long assumed to reside in a single human actor—come apart. We seek contributions that rethink what agency is and where it resides, and that trace how the changing nature of agency reshapes people, work, organizations, and strategy. Special Issue on AI-Enabled Frontiers in Organizational Science

Submissions accepted October 1 – November 1, 2026

This special issue of Organization Science asks whether AI should produce faster, cheaper versions of what we already do—or fundamentally new science. Returning to the journal's founding call to escape the "normal science straitjacket," we seek contributions that reimagine what a research contribution is in an AI-enabled world, favoring wild ideas and radical innovation over incremental improvement. Welcome forms include AI-enabled research loops, reusable research infrastructure, new measurement, synthetic social systems, and critical work on the limits of AI-enabled science—we want the innovative applications themselves, not conventional papers or "AI slop."
